The Christian Reformed Church
South Bend, Indiana

William Johnson & Son opus 603 1883. This 2 manual 19 rank tracker was built for the Methodist church of Amsterdam, NY. The organ was moved to Saco, ME by C.E. Morey of Utica, NY in 1913. When the church building was sold in 2001 to become a private residence, the organ was purchased by the South Bend congregation for their new sanctuary.
The organ was restored by Wallace & Company with several reversible modifications. An 8’ Trumpet and Mixture IV were added to the Great. The Swell 8’ Aeoline, Aeoline Celeste and 4’ Aeoline were replaced with by an 8’ Viola Celeste, 4’ Principal and 2’ Flautino. The replacement pipework was from a less fortunate George Stevens of similar vintage, appropriate scale and voicing. The Stevens Mixture was reconstituted to follow the Mixture structure used by Johnson. The original pipework has been carefully stored in the organ along with their toe and rackboards. Other reversible modifications included a 32 note pedalboard and a 16’ pedal reed.
